Typefaces that are selected for their style, legibility, and readability are most effective when following the fundamental principles of typographic design. Names of letterform parts: aperture, ascender, baseline, cap height, descender, leading, letter-spacing, sans serif, serif, stem, stroke, x-height When a design has good hierarchy, it’s well organized, easy to navigate, and simple to find the information you need. Typographic hierarchy is particularly important for text-heavy designs such as newsletters, magazines, books, and other traditional print publications, as well as some websites.

Typography is the art and technique of arranging type to make written language legible, readable, and appealing when displayed. The arrangement of type involves selecting typefaces, point sizes, line lengths, line-spacing (), and letter-spacing (tracking), and adjusting the space between pairs of letters (kerning). Typography design is the art and technique of arranging type. It's at the centre of a designer's skillset and is about much more than simply making the words legible. The typeface you choose and how it works with your layout, grid, colour scheme and so on will make the difference between a good, bad and great design.

Designing typographic posters is no easy task, and arranging and modifying each individual component is a skilled task. Not only that, special care has to be taken when it comes to the legibility and aesthetics of the fonts being used in the poster, choosing a type that works well together and conveys the right impression. Stop thinking of typography as simply headlines and body copy and start thinking of it as a design element. Typefaces are meticulously designed and therefore possess an aesthetic that can be a valuable asset to your design arsenal. This of course goes well beyond building faces with letters.
